CAGIS Seminar October 23rd | A Multi-Scalar Approach to Mapping Gentrification

Categories: News

We welcome UNCC GES alums Danny Yonto and Claire Schuch to our CAGIS Seminar to give a talk regarding their efforts to map gentrification in Charlotte.

Gentrification has been increasingly studied, but disagreement continues on how best to define and measure it, particularly in regards to how scale influences detection.

In this presentation we hear how Drs. Yonto and Schuch used mixed methods techniques to map gentrification in Charlotte with indices based on demographics, parcel building data and clustered building data. Results were then assessed using the perceptions of “on the ground” experts.

They found that detection improved in indices of increasing complexity, and at finer scales of analyses.
