CAGIS Showcases Geospatial Technologies at the 2026 EEGS Open House

Categories: News

The Center for Applied Geographic Information Science (CAGIS) participated in the third annual Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences (EEGS) Open House on October 14, 2026. Held in the McEniry lobby, the event introduced students to the department’s academic programs, research opportunities, centers, and student organizations.

Dr. Yao Li and Dr. Tianyang Chen represented CAGIS at the event, with volunteer support from Qifan Zhao. The team showcased a ground robot, an augmented reality (AR) sandbox, and two drones, including the center’s newly acquired DJI Matrice 400. These exhibits highlighted technologies that support geospatial research and education, from ground robotics and interactive terrain visualization to aerial mapping.

The Open House provided an opportunity to connect with students, introduce the center’s research resources, and explore how geospatial science supports environmental research and real-world applications.

We thank Qifan Zhao, Scott Do, and Azad Sadeghi for volunteering their time, the organizers for bringing the EEGS community together, and everyone who stopped by the CAGIS exhibits!
